Low Pressure Die Casting Machines for Sale
What is the low pressure die casting process (LPDC)?
Low pressure casting or low pressure die casting is an advanced variation of the permanent mold casting process. In the low pressure die casting process a mold is placed in a vertical hydraulic press. Underneath the bed of the press is holding furnace containing liquid metal (most commonly Aluminum or Magnesium). Gas pressure is applied to the surface of the liquid metal forcing the metal up and into the die (mould) in the hydraulic press. The process of filling the die with metal is much slower than in high pressure die casting but this can be an advantage depending on the part being cast. After the die cavity is filled with metal and the metal solidifies and the die opens and the part is removed from the machine and the process repeats. As with high pressure die casting the process requires complex machinery. The low pressure die casting process may be fully automated. Production rates are lower than high pressure die casting but some parts can be cast most effectively in the low pressure casting process because of part design or the metal being cast. Minimum wall thickness can be as little as 3 mm. The low pressure casting process has the ability to produce castings with very little porosity. Machine size limits the size of castings that can be produced. Surface finishes are typically better than with gravity die casting, but not a good as those that can be obtained with high pressure die casting. A variation of the low pressure process is the pressure-counter-pressure or counter-pressure-casting process. You can view our counter pressure casting machines here.
